February 9 , 2009 The Alberta Bicycle Association is excited to release a newly expanded BMX Provincial Team Program. Full details can be found below. The Team will consist of two sub groups. These two groups will be known as the Alberta Development Team (Devo Team) and the Alberta Performance Team as outlined below. There will be a total of 40 positions on the team. The team is a potential opportunity for riders of an Expert level, residing in Alberta, and that hold a current CCA/UCI license obtained through the Alberta Bicycle Association. The Alberta Youth Development Team to consist of two riders of each male and female in all age groups from age 9-14 inclusive for a total of 24 riders. Finish Points 1 10 2 8 3 7 4 6 5 5 6 4 7 3 8 2 Team to consist of two riders of each male and female in all age groups from age 15 to 18 inclusive for a total of 16 riders. Nationally carded riders are not eligible for placement on this team. This is the peak of Alberta’s High Performance BMX Program. Rider’s will be expected to carry themselves will class, maturity and decorum. If an invited rider declines the invitation to join the team then the BMX Committee and coach will pick from their pre-determined ‘short-list’ to fill that spot. If that spot was initially offered as one of the 8 ‘point-spots’ then the committee is requested but not bound to invite the next rider using the points system. If a team member declines to attend two team projects (for reasons other than injury) that rider forfeits his or her position on the team. PROVINCIAL BMX TEAM PROGRAM
Introduction
Alberta Provincial Youth Development Team
Team Objective: To prepare riders for national and international competition, identify future talent, and improve rider’s bike skills, and to prepare riders for placement onto the Performance Team.
Value to Athletes: Each rider will receive a Team Alberta Jersey to be worn at minimum, at team projects. As well each rider will be invited to attend a series of camps each of two day’s duration. These are camps run by Performance Team athletes and are open to the public with limited spaces available. Any and all monies generated from the sale of spots for the camp to non team riders will go back into the overall Alberta Provincial BMX Team budget.
Selection Criteria: Athletes will receive a combined points score from each of the following events:
Alberta Provincial Performance Team
Objective: To prepare riders to win the National Championships, be competitive at a high level national and international competitions, and eventual placement onto the Canadian National Team.
Value to Athletes: Each rider will receive a Team Alberta Jersey to be worn at minimum at team projects. Each rider will have entry fees paid at select UCI races and the Canadian National Championships. Each rider will receive a personalized training program as well as weekly team practice sessions with team coach. Riders will also receive funding for travel and accommodation to team projects consisting of Canadian National Championships, select UCI races, and training camps. In 2009 the Performance Team will have an exclusive high intensity 5-6 hour session with Ken Cools, Marc Willers, Bubba Harris and Mike Day in Airdrie June 5, 2009 in advance of the Camp Cools MegaCamp.
Selection criteria: The top ONE rider from each male and female based on the point total from the table above. The higher finish in the Alberta Championships will be used as the tie breaker for any ties in points. This will make up half of the team. The remaining 8 spots will be Performance Team Coach’s selection upon consultation with the AB Bicycle BMX Committee. Coach’s Selection athletes may be selected based on dedication to the sport and other intangible results as well as results from UCI and other racing sanctions in Canada or abroad at the national and international level such as World Championships. Athlete must apply to be considered for Coach’s selection. The application period for the 2009 season will take place from Jan 1, 2009 to March 31, 2009. The application period for the 2010 season will take place from September 20th to November 1st, 2009. These applications with take the form of a written request letter and resume of race results and history per a typical application for corporate sponsorship.
