How do I purchase a membership?

Step 1: Register with a club; for a list of clubs affiliated with ABA click here (If you wish to ride as an independent there is a $15.00 independent fee).

Step 2: Purchase a Community Membership or Racing License by registering online. Note - If your club does not appear in Zone 4 they are not affiliated with the ABA, please contact your club for further details.

WHICH TYPE OF LICENSE IS RIGHT FOR ME?

Choose Community Membership License if you are interested in club rides and training activities

Community Non-Racing license holders DO NOT have access to race at the AB Cup Series in any discipline.

Community Non-Racing license holders can participate in Fondos or recreational mass participation events sanctioned by ABA.
Community Non-Racing license holders can NOT race in Provincial Championship events.

Choose Citizen / Provincial License if you are interested in Categorized Racing in AB only including AB Cup and Provincial Championships.

Provincial Race license holders can race in Road, Track, MTB, Gravel and CX Provincial Cup events that are sanctioned by the ABA at the lowest category offered
Provincial Race license holders can race in XC in the novice class
Provincial Race licenses are not valid for BMX
Provincial Race license holders can NOT race outside of Alberta.
Provincial Race license holders can NOT race in UCI or Nationally sanctioned categories at national or international events

Choose a UCI license if you are interested in racing outside of AB or Canada, or in UCI sanctioned events.

UCI licenses are required for competing in National Championships and nationally sanctioned races.
UCI licenses are required to earn upgrade points
UCI licenses are required to participate in AB Cup BMX races and district racing outside your home track
Late Season Cyclo-cross licenses, Para licenses and DH licenses are only valid for the individual discipline

Choose a UCI Technical license if you wish to work as a coach, team manager, soigneur, organizer, mechanic, caravan driver, agent

You must have the appropriate credentials to register for a number of technical license categories:

Coaches must have completed training and/or certification as an NCCP cycling coach.
Drivers must have successfully completed Cycling Canada’s online Caravan Driver Training

Single Event Licenses (SEL) FAQ

Athletes who do not hold a racing license who wish to participate in events may do so under certain circumstances.
Athletes may purchase up to three SELs in a season.
Single Event licenses are generally offered at CX, MTB, ITT and Timed Track events.
Mountain Bikes Races; SELs are applicable to any ability category
Cyclocross Races; SELs are restricted to Novice Category and Sport Women
Road + Track Events; SELs restricted to individually timed events only. Not available for mass start races.
Provincial Championship policy regarding SELs: athletes may compete at MTB, Track, ITT or CX events under a SEL but do not qualify for a Provincial Championship podium. Organizers may, or will, elect to offer a second podium to recognize a finish ranking. To be a provincial medalist you must be a member of the association.

Terms and Conditions

All prices above are before Zone 4 processing fees.
Membership age is based on the individual’s age as of December 31, 2025.
If there are any pricing issues during the registration process, please contact the ABA Office. When upgrading from one membership to another, members will only be asked to pay the difference in membership costs. Once processed, the original membership is considered cancelled.
All members are issued a digital membership card in PDF Format.
