Sanctioning
Provincial Race Sanction
Organizers of ABA Provincial races must demonstrate permission to use their designated venue and an Emergency Response Plan in compliance with the ABA’s Medical Support Policy, in addition to compliance with other ABA Organizers’ policies and applicable UCI, CCA, and ABA Regulations. Following are features of an ABA Provincial Race:
- event placement on ABA calendar, promotion of event by ABA
- rider levy collected as per policy
- commissaires assigned, commissaire honoraria paid by ABA
- category upgrading points available (if applicable)
- Alberta Cup points available (if applicable)
- insurance coverage via race being open only to holders of UCI licenses, ABA Citizen licenses, or, purchase of Commercial Event Insurance (ABA Single Event License policy applies)
Club Race Sanction
Organizers of ABA Club races must demonstrate permission to use their designated venue, and must comply with ABA Organizers’ policies and applicable UCI, CCA, and ABA Regulations. Following are features of an ABA Club Race
- 1 commissaire (not assigned by ABA)
- no provincial upgrading points (except BMX) or Alberta Cup points awarded
- no rider levy collected
- event placement on ABA calendar, promotion of event by ABA
- $50 calendar fee levied for each race or series
- insurance coverage via:
- all participants are holders of UCI licenses or Alberta Citizen licenses; or,
- all participants are general members of the ABA; or,
Gran Fondo Sanction
A Gran Fondo event must follow the ABA Gran Fondo regulations. Organizers of ABA Gran Fondo events must demonstrate permission to use their designated venue and an Emergency Response Plan in compliance with the ABA Medical Support Policy, in addition to compliance with other ABA Organizers’ policies. Following are features of an ABA Gran Fondo;
- no commissaires assigned
- no rider levy collected
- 15% insurance surcharge levied by ABA
- event placement on ABA calendar, promotion of event by ABA
- Insurance coverage via purchase of Commercial Event Insurance
Recreational Event Sanction
A recreational event is a family friendly bike ride, with no separate start times, no timing and no podiums. Organizers of ABA Recreational events must demonstrate permission to use their designated venue and an Emergency Response Plan in compliance with the ABA Medical Support Policy, in addition to compliance with other ABA Organizers’ policies. Following are features of an ABA Recreational Event:
- no commissaires assigned
- no rider levy collected
- 15% insurance surcharge levied by ABA
- event placement on ABA calendar, promotion of event by ABA
- Insurance coverage via purchase of Commercial Event Insurance
