Canada will be represented by a strong road team at the 2009 Pan American Championships in Hidalgo, Mexico on July 23rd and 24th.
The original Pan Am Championships were scheduled for May in Chihuahua, Mexico. The CCA has decided to make a new selection of athletes based on the difficulty of the road course and athletes available. The main goal remains to score precious UCI points.
The ITT course is flat and our athletes should do well to secure valuable America Tour UCI points that will help Canada try to qualify another starter for road Worlds. The road course is extremely challenging and features a mountain top finish at over 3500 meters of altitude.
The elite women's team includes two 2009 Canadian National Champions. Tara Whitten (AB) in the elite ITT and Joelle Numainville (QC) in the U23 road race. Moriah Jo MacGregor (BC) and Laura Brown (BC) will round out the team for the road race and are coming off strong performances at National Championships and UCI events in Canada.
The elite men's team includes two 2009 National Champions. David Veilleux (QC) in the U23 ITT and Guillaume Boivin (QC) winner of the elite/U23 road race. Also on the team is Ryan Roth (ON) who had excellent National Championships with a 4th place in the elite ITT and 3rd in the road race. David Boily (QC) and Jean-Michel Lachance (QC) will also support the team for the road race as they are in Mexico preparing for the Pan Am Track Championships.
