The Alberta Downhill Racing Association (ADHRA), in collaboration with Cochrane based bike shop Bike Bros, Pass Powderkeg Ski Hill in Blairmore AB and new sponsor Louis Garneau, is pleased to present the 2009 Alberta Cup Downhill Provincial Championships – The Rum Runner. This is the third year that the Alberta Downhill Racing Association is the organizer of this prestigious event. The fastest downhill mountain bike racers in the province will be competing for the title of Alberta Downhill Champion. The event will take place on the weekend of August 1-2, 2009.
The course at Pass Powderkeg will be a challenge for even the best riders in the province. It has technical tight singletrack, steep rocky sections and open high speed areas where riders could possibly reach speeds of over 70 km/hr. Although this event will crown the provincial champions ADHRA has always had the mandate to include all ages and skill levels in its races. Racers as young as 10 years old are welcome to enter the race and try to be the fastest down the hill. We will be providing a much safer course for the little rippers to keep them having fun and riding safe. Don’t forget about the old rippers , there will be racing classes for Masters riders as well.
Spectators are encouraged to come out and cheer on the racers as they vie for the provincial crown. If you have never witnessed the excitement of downhill mountain racing then this is your best chance to see the fastest riders in the province.
Training will occur on Saturday August 1 and the race will take place on August 2 with the first racers coming down the course at around 1pm. Hope to see you all there.
